Tuition Exchange scholarships are not guaranteed; they are competitive awards for which students must apply. This opportunity is limited to full-time undergraduate study for up to eight consecutive semesters (fall and spring) up to age 23. Interested employees are encouraged to read .

Eligible dependent children must complete  for a Tuition Exchange scholarship and must apply for admission to a member school(s).  It is the decision of the school to which the dependent child has applied to grant a Tuition Exchange scholarship.

As a member school, Kean University has a reciprocal agreement to grant scholarships to eligible children of employees from other member schools. Information about Kean’s participation can be found on Kean’s admissions page.

Member schools appoint Tuition Exchange Liaison Officers (TELO), who are responsible for confirming the eligibility of employees and dependents. The TELO for Kean employees is Yrelys Tapanes, ytapanes@kean.edu, Director of Benefits.

Timing for Tuition Exchange Program Applications

The application process begins each fall for students entering higher education the following fall semester. It is important that applicants verify admission and Tuition Exchange scholarship application deadlines with the member schools of interest. Interested students should seek out the Import TELO at the member school(s) with questions and to receive specific information. Import TELOs of member schools can be found on each school’s on the Tuition Exchange site. Additional requirements from member school can include the  annually, maintaining minimum grade point average, being enrolled fulltime, and living on campus.

You are encouraged to apply simultaneously for:

• Student admissions at TE member school (Import)
• Financial Aid (as applicable)
• Tuition Exchange Scholarship Program

For Fall admissions, it is recommended that Kean employees submit their dependent child application(s) for consideration to the tuition exchange scholarship program at the same time that the dependent child submits their application(s) for admission to the TE member import school, and financial aid.

 The recommended date to apply for Tuition Exchange scholarship consideration is no later than January 1st. Export applications received after that date will still be approved but the student may not be considered for a TE scholarship at the Import school due to limited number of awards being offered.

Dollar Value of TE Scholarships

The value of the TE scholarship is full tuition or the annual TE set rate. The TE Scholarship amount may include/be offset by any federal grants, state grants, institutional scholarships/grants or outside scholarships the student is awarded. The TE set rate is adjusted annually. For the 2025-2026 Academic year, the set rate is $43,000; for 2026-2027, the set rate is $44,000. Check the  for their TE scholarship maximum. Tuition Exchange allows member schools flexibility in providing funds beyond the required set rate. 

It is important for the family to ask questions of your Admissions Counselor for the best understanding of your financial aid award package. Additionally, it is your responsibility to ask the value of the TE award from the Import TE Liaison Officer at the school the child plans to attend.

The number of awards granted is determined by each to which the student is applying and among other factors, may be dependent on available funds. Each member school will make independent decisions on granting scholarships, the amount of the scholarship awards and other applicable criteria.
